Student run over by bus

A Class-VI student who was on his way to school on a bicycle was run over by a private bus near Shrikantabati High School in Raghunathgunj on Wednesday morning.

BEHRAMPORE: A Class-VI student who was on his way to school on a bicycle was run over by a private bus near Shrikantabati High School in Raghunathgunj on Wednesday morning. While the boy - 12-year-old SujanMondal - died on the spot, locals ransacked the bus and set it on fire. The accident threw traffic out of gear on Omarpur-Jangipur Road for more than two hours.

Though the accident spot is 2km from Raghunathgunj police station, police reportedly came after one hour. The fire brigade too reached after the bus was almost burnt.
Sahib Sheikh, a passenger who was on the bus, said, "The bus driver was driving at a very high speed. Though he saw the student on the bicycle, he could not control the speed and hit him."
Sujan's parents blamed poor roads for the death. Sujan's father Swadhin Mondal said, "We are farmers and the bicycle was bought just three days ago to fulfill my son's dream. He was killed because of poor road condition and reckless driving."
"Omarpur-Jangipur Road is very narrow and a major portion of it has been encroached upon. Neither the former Union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee nor his son tried to improve the problems. Every other day, there is an accident on this road," said Sujan's mother Fulbari.
Sandip Majumdar, friend of Sujan said 'one district police chief Humayun Kabir started new traffic system with local youths, but his initiative became fruitless a few months ago as those traffic wardens are taking bribes and giving relaxation to every vehicles at a time.'

Police could not control traffic jam on Omarpur-Jangipur road for two and half hours.
Swadhin Mondal, father of the deceased student said 'we are farmer and purchased a new bi cycle just three days ago to fulfill sujan's demand. The main reason of the accident is bad road condition and reckless driving.'
Sahib Sheikh, one passenger said 'the driver was driving with execive speed and could not control even after seeing the student on road.'
'We could not guess such incident. Omarpur-Jangipur road is encroached and very narrow, but neither former union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee nor his son tried to remove our problem of road communication and we are seeing accident almost regularly on the road' said Fulbari Mondal, mother of the accident victim.
